Annual
General Meeting/Celebration of Learning 2009

Sixty
people attended the 15th AGM of Cothrom held on Thursday 14th May,
with Rosemary Ward, Acting Chief Executive of Bòrd na Gàidhlig
as Guest Speaker.
Neil
MacDonald, Director, gave an overview of Cothrom’s achievements over
the past year and its continuing provision of community based learning
and training. Special mention was made on the excellent relationship
created between staff and students which lead to a better learning
environment. Cothrom Òg continues to flourish with 23 children registered
to use the service. The outside play area is now equipped with a playhouse/slide
and swings, SHARE, Bornish Community Council and the Childcare Partnership
were acknowledged for their valuable contributions towards this. Thanks
were also expressed to Bòrd na Gàidhlig for their funding
of places for children aged 3-5 with Cothrom Òg.
The
event also marked the hard work and accomplishments of our many students
and Rosemary Ward kindly presented their certificates. Students
were successful in a variety of subjects including Management, Business
and Administration, Childcare, Hospitality, Basic Computing and Creative
Writing amongst others. Joanne Thorington was praised for her
story which was short-listed in a national writing competition.
Rosemary
was very pleased with the success of Cothrom Òg and admired Cothrom
for providing the opportunity to the young and the old of the islands
to gain new skills which will be put to use in their own communities.
All
those attending were then invited to a delicious buffet, prepared
by Annette.
Cothrom
would like to take this opportunity to thank employers for providing
the chance for students to gain valuable work experience during their
training.
