Thanks to new funding from the Robertson Trust, we are seeking a suitably experienced and qualified individual to support learners at Cothrom who are confronting the challenges of alcohol or drug misuse.

JOB TITLE:

Substance Misuse Support Worker

 

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Manager

 

 

JOB PURPOSE:

To support learners at Cothrom confronting the challenges of alcohol/drug addiction to address these challenges and progress into employment/volunteering or further education and training.

 

DUTIES:

    •  To work closely with the Training Co-ordinator in the initial assessment of learners

    •  To work with individual learners with addiction challenges to provide a holistic programme of learning, training, work experience, mentoring and confidence building

    •  To work intensively with learners in 1-1 and group settings to address the social and psychological challenges that prevent their progression

    •  To support their progression into employment/further education or training and provide on-going support in sustaining the transition

    •  To provide a variety of awareness raising sessions and interventions for young people

    •  To undertake regular reviews of progress with Tutors and the Training Co-ordinator

    •  To record and monitor progress both in training and in the workplace using agreed paperwork and methods

    •  To work closely with the local NHS Substance Misuse Co-ordinator

    •  To signpost and link learners with appropriate support services within the community and statutory agencies

    •  To engage with a range of agencies as required, both community and statutory, to meet the needs of learners seeking to recover from these difficulties

    •  To ensure that all duties or responsibilities are performed in a safe manner so that no risk to health or   safety arises to yourself, any other employee or member of the public

     

    To carry out any other duties that may need to be allocated from time to time to

      ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the service

     

    To attend Annual General Meeting, Staff Meetings and any other Cothrom Events

Knowledge

 

 

Understanding of the needs of the service user group

 

 

Knowledge of alcohol/drugs and their effects; intervention methods and treatment/counselling approaches with service users

 

Knowledge of good practice in relation to quality case management

 

Knowledge of child protection procedures and responsibilities

 

Skills and Abilities

 

 

 

Good communication skills

 

Ability to engage effectively with service users

 

Ability to work on own initiative in a flexible manner as required

 

Care planning skills

 

IT skills

 

Experience

 

Previous experience of working in the addictions field, particularly with young people

 

Ability to produce written reports and / or case recording as required

 

 

 

Experience of providing intensive support to individuals affected by alcohol and/or drug use

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

Diploma in Drug and Alcohol Studies or other addiction qualification or certificate
