After
serving my apprenticeship in Glasgow I qualified
as a Chartered Accountant in 1975 and transferred
to our Johannesburg office on a two year secondment.
I then worked in a marine engineering concern in
Saudi Arabia for 5 years in total. I then spent
2 years with a road construction company in Nigeria
from where I went to Sudan as Financial Controller
for the Sudan Rural Development Corporation. After
a year working freelance in Scotland I went to Egypt
with Lilley Construction of Glasgow who were building
part of the tunnel works for a new sewer system
in Cairo . When that was complete I went to Bangladesh
under an EEC funded contract aimed at reconstruction
of basic facilities in more that 700 rural locations.
I have
been in Uist for the past nine years, the first
4 years were spent with Uist Builders in Daliburgh
and since then I have been working on a freelance
basis.
I enjoy living in the islands
and believe location should be no barrier to learning
which partly explains my involvement with Cothrom.
I am ‘into’ traditional music and serve on the Board
of Ceolas Uibhist Ltd.
