We strive to deliver community based learning, training and support alongside quality Gaelic childcare, to enable inclusion and encourage full participation in the economic, social, and cultural  development of life of the Western Isles

Cothrom, meaning opportunity in Gaelic, is a Community and Development organisation in South Uist in the Western Isles. From our base in Ormiclate we cover the islands of Berneray to Barra.

Training and community support are the main focuses of our work with a diverse portfolio of adult learning opportunities, Recovery Support Services, Homelessness and Advocacy programmes and a full time
Gàidhlig Nursery, Cothrom Òg, for children aged 3 months to pre-school.

This is our all day childcare facility based at Ormiclate in South Uist. We are able to provide quality childcare through the medium of Gàidhlig for children aged between 3 months and 12 years.

We are also the only provider of full week after school sessions for Primary aged pupils in South Uist. To find out more email cothromog@cothrom.net.

Cothrom ReStore

Our purpose built workshop and shop provides a practical working environment for our community, learners and volunteers to learn new skills through furniture recycling, upcycling, woodwork, sewing, and retail.

Restore contributes to our green aims and objectives by greatly reducing the tonnage of materials that is sent to landfill and provides our community with Revolve Standard second hand furniture to be re-loved on island.

Support work

We offer a range of support services to those with additional needs including volunteering, work placements, and job coaching.

Specific addiction services work is delivered through weekly drop-in  sessions; mentoring, gym programming, meditation & mindfulness, therapeutic gardening and awareness raising events.
