Since the children in the 2-5 room have been learning about winter, they went to the power station in Loch Carnan to see what effect the winter weather has on us.
They were shown a clip of what windy weather can do and the Personal Protective Equipment the staff have to wear and use when working. They took turns operating the crane and even found time to do some colouring in! Thank you to the staff of SSE for taking the time to show our children around. They thoroughly enjoyed their day and were full of stories on their return to Cothrom.

Tha a' chlann ag ionnsachadh an dath buidhe.
The children in the 0-2 room are being introduced to the colour 'buidhe' in many different forms. The children have been taking part in lots of different activities whilst learning about winter. They made their own snowflakes using glue and salt, and some "snow slime" for some sensory play. They went for a walk on a frosty morning to find some puddles frozen over with ice, and found some ice to take into the nursery to see what would happen to it.
What better way to learn about geamhradh than to get fully immersed in the great outdoors, exploring and promoting gross motor skills. As we are learning about winter, we have made an "ice rink" outside out of some plastic and washing up liquid.
The children have been creating their own patterns using these cogs. Learning about pattern through play will help children understand number concepts.
The children were making the most of the lovely calm day and chose to have snack outside. They spent their afternoon transporting the bark from one area to another an made up their own game of 'Crocodile Tig'.
We would like to thank the Coop members for choosing Cothrom Òg as their Local Community Fund cause. We have received an amazing £10,394.29 which will go a long way towards extending our outdoor play area. Work will commence in February based on feedback from children and parents. We are hoping that members of our community will be able to volunteer some time and experience - please get in touch if you'd like to be a part. You'll be able to keep up to date on the works here on our blog.
