During one of our nature walks during our Spring term topic we found a pond with tadpoles. We managed to capture some and took them back to nursery. We used the internet to find out about the best way to care for them and discovered that boiled lettuce was an excellent food source. Luckily Sue and Margaret had been growing lettuce with the children so the tadpoles were well fed until we bought some fish food. The children have been extremely engaged in watching the tadpoles grow into frogs, and it has been an excellent way to learn first hand about life cycles. The frogs will be released back into the pond the children found them in.

To finish off their topic on Spring the children visited two crofts. They got to see a variety of animals and got the opportunity to feed some of them, and ask lots of questions about the care of them.
We would like to thank Duncan John, Yvonne and Jacob for taking us around their croft, and for Abbie and Michael for showing us their wide variety of animals and for answering our many questions! |
