Using Floorbook planning to involve children in their learning journey.
In nursery, at the start of topic the nursery staff do a mind map exercise where they establish prior knowledge and what the children are interested in learning or finding out or discussing in the topic. As they move through the topic the children are very much involved in their learning journey through the use of floorbooks. Children and staff produce the books and include photos, pictures, drawings, comments and quotes, all the while generating discussion about the learning. The children’s views and responses are at the heart of what is contained in the floorbooks. Here are a few sample pages from the 0-3 and the 3-5 room to give you a wee insight into some of the children’s experiences.
