Cothrom ÒG

Cothrom Òg is our Gaelic medium childcare provision based at our Ormiclate campus.  Originally developed in line with our adult learning programme the childcare centre was opened in order to support families and people returning to work, primarily mothers.

Both staff and centre are registered with the SSSC, and all of our staff have full PVG certificates with Disclosure Scotland.
Our nursery Key Workers are fully trained to the latest standards, and follow the Curriculum for Excellence.

Cothrom Òg is independently operated but works closely with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar in delivery of funded hours, and in providing places for children in receipt of the Sure Start programme. Staff also attend in-service training at CnES.
Cothrom Òg caters for children from the age of three months up to pre-school. The nursery facility is separated into two sections, a baby room for under two's, and a playroom for age groups two-three and three-five.
The baby room is equipped with baby walkers and high chairs, and contains soft areas that are safe and comfortable for very young children. There is also a separate sleep room with cots.
Push chairs are also available.

Our nursery practitioners are fully trained and follow the Curriculum for Excellence guidelines to plan for 3-5's, and Pre-birth to 3 to plan for the younger age group.
The children participate in daily activities based on that months plan. Reading, storytelling, singing, arts and crafts, physical activity, music and movements, and baking are all activities that regularly take place in the nursery. We also aim to take the children outdoors for 15 minutes every day - longer when the weather allows it.

Cothrom Òg has it's own play area with swings and a slide, and a garden where children grow their own vegetables in raised beds. The vegetables are then used in cooking and in learning about food and nutrition. Furthermore, the children visit the walled garden, Falachan Cothrom, in Daliburgh to help the horticulture students and learn even more about growing our own food.

We often have visiting tutors and host events such as Bookbug, and the older children also attend craft sessions at ReStore once a week.

This is a great service if you need to get to work before the school bus arrives, or need to stay on for that meeting that you just cannot miss!
The children will be entertained with a range of practical and challenging activities such as baking, clay modelling, physical activities, arts and crafts, and much more.
If you are interested in using these clubs during term time or school holidays please do not hesitate to get in touch. You are most welcome to view the nursery facilities anytime you wish but prior booking is essential for the clubs and Cothrom Òg charges apply.
