Cothrom has signed a Community Fibre Partnership with OpenReach and has been provided a grant covering 75% of the costs of installing superfast broadband.
Superfast broadband will make a great difference to what we do here at Cothrom, especially with the introduction of e-learning and distance learning. We hope to go live in October. A great two days of Project Management Training was completed at Cothrom today. This course was run jointly with Social Enterprise Academy and Thomas Fisher who tutored the group of five students in the finer points of managing successful projects. The Social Enterprise Academy have a range of courses available, all of which can be delivered in South Uist should there be a demand.
The next planned course will be in Gàidhlig Medium Facilitation Skills on March 15th and 16th. Have you always wanted to create a garden but just not sure how to start? This is the fourth year Cothrom Ltd, in partnership with Lews Castle College, will be offering the SVQ at Level 1 and 2 in Horticulture in Uist and Barra. You will learn how to sow, grow, harvest, cook, and preserve your produce. Learn what grows well on the islands and how to achieve the best results in your garden; equip yourself with new skills in pruning, propagating, and producing colourful flower borders; improve the overall look of your garden or allotment and learn how to use a range of equipment. The flexible programme delivered from Ormiclate, South Uist will lead you through the process from seed packet to plate, enjoy the harvest of your own vegetables and much more. This free course is accredited through SQA and is ideal for complete beginners or those who are already working or volunteering in this field. The 9-12months course will enable you to gain an SVQ Level 1 or 2 in Horticulture, whilst working in your own garden and the facilities at Cothrom and St Peters walled garden in Daliburgh.
