Apprenticeships are a great way into employment for many young people. Cothrom offer both Foundation Apprenticeships as well as Modern Apprenticeships.

A Foundation Apprenticeship is taken as a subject while you are still in school. For example, if you choose to study childcare you will receive both tutoring in school as well as work experience as part of your apprenticeship.
Modern Apprenticeships consist of mostly practical experience through employment while also being supported by a tutor to achieve academic requirements. For example, you can undertake an SVQ (Scottish Vocational Qualification) in Business and Administration while working as a receptionist or other office-based job.

Apprenticeships are an excellent way to demonstrate both experience and relevant qualifications to your future employer.

Modern Apprenticeship Highlight - Charlotte

7/3/2019

Comments

Charlotte, one of our Modern Apprentices in Business and Administration, is completing her training through her work at ReStore.  Charlotte began her Modern Apprenticeship at ReStore after participating in Stages 2 and 3 of the Employability Fund here at Cothrom. Gaining a Modern Apprenticeship is a natural progression for Charlotte.

Some of her day to day responsibilities as a Modern Apprentice in ReStore include shop duties such as customer service, completing sales through our till, and checklisting and pricing new furniture. She also updates the ReStore online catalogue, both on Instagram and Facebook. One of her most challenging tasks is the organisation of the van - mapping out where collections and deliveries are, as well as keeping in touch with customers and the van workers.

As part of her apprenticeship she has regular meetings with a supervisor and must gather a portfolio of evidence reflecting her learning.

Charlotte accessed three different work placements as part of her time on the Employability Fund and these have not only given her a variety of experience perfect for her CV, but it's also been a great confidence boost.
