Have you always wanted to create a garden but just not sure how to start? This is the fourth year Cothrom Ltd, in partnership with Lews Castle College, will be offering the SVQ at Level 1 and 2 in Horticulture in Uist and Barra. You will learn how to sow, grow, harvest, cook, and preserve your produce. Learn what grows well on the islands and how to achieve the best results in your garden; equip yourself with new skills in pruning, propagating, and producing colourful flower borders; improve the overall look of your garden or allotment and learn how to use a range of equipment. The flexible programme delivered from Ormiclate, South Uist will lead you through the process from seed packet to plate, enjoy the harvest of your own vegetables and much more. This free course is accredited through SQA and is ideal for complete beginners or those who are already working or volunteering in this field. The 9-12months course will enable you to gain an SVQ Level 1 or 2 in Horticulture, whilst working in your own garden and the facilities at Cothrom and St Peters walled garden in Daliburgh.
