About Cothrom ReStore
Cothrom recognised that some adult learners, especially when coping with additional challenges, thrive better outwith the traditional class-room setting. To complement its range of training provision, Cothrom set up ReStore, in 2006, combining community recycling and upcycling services (furniture, textiles, household items) with delivery of transferable skills through practical workplace learning.
In 2017, the purpose built facility opened on the Ormiclate campus.
ReStore supports learners from all areas of the community, from those just looking to develop hobbies and get out of the house to those least equipped to find and sustain employment and personal independence.
Specific training is focused for those with additional challenges including physical and/or learning disabilities, addiction, disengagement from education/work and mental health issues, to reach achievable goals and take positive steps towards their full potential.
ReStore has a number of volunteering opportunities for those looking to develop skills, and those who want to share existing skills. Volunteers work in the shop, undertake upcycling, do furniture collections, drive the Restore van, all while working alongside those with additional needs.

ReStore serves the community in a positive way:
- Receiving and collecting donations of furniture.
- Restoring donated items to be sold in its shop.
- Regular collections from textile banks located around the islands, and storing for later sale to Blythswood Care, twice a year.
- Manufacture of new household/garden items out of recycled timber, e.g. planters and birdhouses, to be sold in its shop.
- Commissions to manufacture items from new or recycled timber, e.g. picnic tables and benches.
- Furniture restoration and return service (mainly woodwork-based and upholstery work).
